Woke up this morning with the tune of "Susan" on my mind. Didn't know the singer and only remember the line "Susan, I'm losing my mind over you". Keyed into Youtube and presto, got it. Wonderful memory - I was 11 in 1962. Thanks for the memory Tobin/Willy, from Malaysia.
Terence, I'm glad you found my recording of "Susan". To remember that line from my song after all these years, proves you have a great memory. It is people like you who make it all worth while. Thank you and all my best, Tobin (Willy)
Susan I'm losin' my mind over you Susan I love you, why can't you be true Susan stop usin' those feminine charms Don't want my baby in no one else's arms
Well every time you're by my side Aw you look so satisfied You're my lovin' baby there's no doubt But they tell me you've got eyes For a lot of other guys And that's what I'm worried about
Aw Susan you like to look around I can see But I know that deep down inside you love me Some day we'll marry, but until we do Susan I'm losin my mind over you
I was an early rock and roll singer and began my career in Chicago in 1957. Most of my younger years, I lived in Calumet City, Ill. til the age of 21. My real name is Willy Henson, stage name, Tobin Matthews. Bob and Dick Poppel and Erma J. Nelson, all from Poppels Under 21 Tropicana Club in Riverdale, Ill., set me up with my first band, The Rhythm Rockers My next band was Jimmy and the Jeepers later changed to Willy and the Jeepers I worked with a lot of the Chicago DJs, Jim Lounsbury, Jan Gabriel, Dell Clark, Howard Miller, Pappy John and many others. We played many record hops, school proms, etc.
I recorded for USA, Columbia and Warner Bros. records from 1960 to 1966.
Today, the best things in my life are my daughters Holly and Carrie, my grandsons Ty, and Cam and my granddaughter Payge. I have two brothers, George and Tim, and one sister, Marcia. I enjoy listening to my oldies record collection, flea markets, auto racing and Da Bears.
Looking forward to the new task of documenting my early music career on this blog that my daughter Holly helped me create.
