Jeremy and I are cousins. His stage name is Jeremy Jordan, real name Donald Henson. My stage name is Tobin Matthews, real name William Henson. We both grew up in Calumet City, Illinois. I am quite a bit older than Jeremy. I cut my first record in 1961 and he recorded his first record, "The Right Kind Of Love" in 1992.
Having some rough times and not very happy he ran away at age 17, finding a home wherever he could, with friends, charities, etc.
One day he wandered into the Demon Dog, a restaurant near DePaul University owned by Pete Schivarelli, music executive and former member of the band "Chicago". That, in turn, led to a trip to L.A. to meet music man Irvine Azoff, who signed the newly named Jeremy Jordan to a record deal. Jeremy's first record "The Right Kind Of Love" was a smash hit. His talent then led him to a successful acting career. All of this, almost overnight. It had to be like a dream.
Jeremy then had some personal problems. His life and career were put on hold. Today, with the help of his wife Marnie, they are working hard to rebuild a once bright career. I wish Jeremy and Marnie all the success and luck in the world. Here is a nice Jeremy Jordan music video of "The Right Kind Of Love"
This video has several short clips featuring Jeremy's acting roles.
I was an early rock and roll singer and began my career in Chicago in 1957. Most of my younger years, I lived in Calumet City, Ill. til the age of 21. My real name is Willy Henson, stage name, Tobin Matthews. Bob and Dick Poppel and Erma J. Nelson, all from Poppels Under 21 Tropicana Club in Riverdale, Ill., set me up with my first band, The Rhythm Rockers My next band was Jimmy and the Jeepers later changed to Willy and the Jeepers I worked with a lot of the Chicago DJs, Jim Lounsbury, Jan Gabriel, Dell Clark, Howard Miller, Pappy John and many others. We played many record hops, school proms, etc.
I recorded for USA, Columbia and Warner Bros. records from 1960 to 1966.
Today, the best things in my life are my daughters Holly and Carrie, my grandsons Ty, and Cam and my granddaughter Payge. I have two brothers, George and Tim, and one sister, Marcia. I enjoy listening to my oldies record collection, flea markets, auto racing and Da Bears.
Looking forward to the new task of documenting my early music career on this blog that my daughter Holly helped me create.
